Thea Wray

Thea has spent over 40 years in the music industry in Jamaica and in The UK, working in theatre, television, tourism and event entertainment, but made her start by playing for church services and choirs at Bethel Baptist Church in Kingston as a young teenager.

Thea Wray moved from corporate Kingston where she played in a number of theatrical productions, and provided event entertainment  to the North Coast hotel circuit of Jamaica to sing and play for tourists in 1995.

After she married singer/songwriter Kingsley they moved with their two children back to London in 2000 to pursue their music careers. They became a part of the Rye Lane Chapel church family in Peckham, South London and under the leadership and pastoral care of Rev Dr Frank Goveia and his wife Rhona have continued their Christian walk.  Thea began to lead the worship team in 2004, and is a regular worship leader.

Through their record labels Water II Wine music and  KA 1 productions they have released a number of albums in the UK including the acclaimed 'No boundariesnobordersnolimits'  and  ‘Chemistry’ respectively. As a composer Thea has written over 150 contemporary gospel songs, children’s songs, and jazz and classical pieces and published her first worship songbook entitled ‘Songs for Life’ in 2008. Volume 2 is awaiting printing.

Over the last 13 years Thea has successfully formed and led primary school gospel choirs in South London. She is an outstanding Early Years teacher and music coordinator at Adamsrill Primary School where she set up and leads the school choir in 2015. Through her music studio Support the Sound where she teaches piano, guitar, voice and recorder Thea is able to inspire, motivate and develop the love of music in the next generation. Support the Sound has developed a reputation for excellence with a pass rate of 95-100% for Grades 1 to 8.

She has produced a vocal training cd Support the Sound which she uses in her vocal training sessions. Further afield, Thea has recently worked with Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gravesend to start their Gospel Choir which was launched by a public performance in October 2016.

To mark the 200th anniversary of Rye Lane Chapel,  Thea has been commissioned to lead the Rye Lane Community Gospel Choir. She will bring her own exciting arrangements to choir standards and her own style of arrangement, inspiring exhilarating performances. This choir will be a beacon of sound, light and hope which will celebrate the community spirit of Peckham and bring comfort to those in need of uplifting.
